I'm so glad to hear that you're doing well!

My name is Steve and I live in Huntington, NY. I saw your website and I have to say that it brings back a lot of memories. Really good ones! :)

I remember waking up on high school mornings to "Good Friends." To this day I still remember that. You have one of the most beautiful and honest voices I've ever heard. Your renditions of "No Good To Cry", "Tryin'", "Winter Milk", "So Used to Loving You" and the other songs on "Poppy Seeds" made it one of my all time favorite albums. I also love the way you sing "Evergreen" and "We Had It All". I could go on and on. Song after song. Putting so much emotion into each song and making it seem effortless.

After seeing your website I felt compelled to write to you. Funny really because it's not something that I normally do. I guess I just want to say thank you. Thank you for all the songs I heard you sing and thank you for waking me up on those high school mornings! :)

I hope this message finds its way to you! :)

Hi Steve,

Thank you very much! I consider myself blessed that I was given the talent of music. Like most people, it's not always easy to express all the emotions I feel through conversation. I found that it was so much easier to let those feelings out by singing about them. And it's so rewarding that you can feel it too. Thanks Steve....

Hi Susan! What a nice surprise it was to see your reply to my message to you.

I hope that you're doing well and getting stronger every day!

I agree that often times most people need a way to express their feelings and emotions other than through conversation. Not many people can express those feelings and emotions even through music as well as you do. There's something so soothing about your voice. When you sing it makes people say to themselves, "Hey, I feel that way too!" That's a rare talent especially in today's music world. For good music I listen to older songs. For great music I listen to you......

It is so nice to hear from you. It really was unexpected and very much appreciated! It would be nice to talk to you again when you get the chance.

Have the greatest day,

Steve

Hello Steve and welcome to the forum.

You mentioned the song "Winter Milk". I heard it for the first time just a few weeks ago. I found it on YouTube and added it to the playlist linked to:

SusanJacksFans - YouTube Media Player.

It is currently video #21 of 29. However, the order is subject to change as I edit the playlist or add additional videos.

Winter Milk is also on the "A Good Thing Lost" C.D., along with many of my other favorite Poppy Family songs, and some of Susan's solo recordings. I listen to it often, my vinyl is in storage at the moment as I'm sans-turntable the past few years.

Hi Karen

I'm putting together a custom audio player with a collection of Susan's music. I plan to post it in the first post of the YouTube thread. Much of her older work on vinyl is lost in the annals of time since many of us no longer have the equipment to reproduce it. With the help another of her forum members, we hope to revitalize some of these older cuts to enable each us to access them at any time. In addition, I plan to update the playlist as her songs become available. Winter Milk is in my current collection.

When Susan feels up to it, I hope she can assist me with sorting the collection such that everything gets posted to the correct original albums. And the custom player is capable of handling the sorted content by album name.

Hi Ted,

I'm able to spend more time on the computer these days....sitting in some chairs can be a little uncomfortable but it's getting better. Let me know what you need and I'd be happy to help.

Hi Ted! Thanks for the welcome!

I've liked Winter Milk since I heard it on the Poppy Seeds album. That's really is such a great album. Used to be that you would buy an album and you would get maybe 2 or 3 good songs on it. On Poppy Seeds every song is great! What do you think of Winter Milk now that you've heard it? I don't think that anyone could even come close to doing a better performance of that song than Susan. Also, I feel that her recording of Evergreen is a much better version than that of Roy Orbison. And I love Roy Orbison! lol

From what I've read on this message board this site seems filled with some really nice people all brought together because of a beautiful woman with an amazing voice. How lucky I feel to be a part of it!

Thanks again Ted...and thank you Susan for allowing me to post on here.

Hi Susan

I'm happy you are mobile and now starting to feel a little better. I didn't want to bother you with this until I was certain you were up to it.

But since you've asked, I'll send you a link to the player with the Susan Jacks / Poppy Family music that's currently on the server. At this time the songs are unsorted and all in a single playlist. I was thinking of sorting by original album name. However, I'll send you the information and we can discuss and modify anything to meet your expectations, including the player skin.

And Steve, I love all Susan's music. Have you heard her sing Different Drum? I thought Linda Ronstadt And The Stone Ponies were great until I heard Susan sing it. Something about her unique ability to fill each line with emotion.

Hi Ted,

Yes, I have heard Susan's rendition of Different Drum and agree that it is much better than the original Linda Ronstadt version. I don't think that there is a female singer anywhere that can capture the essence of a song like Susan does. I am so happy that I found this site and am able to communicate with people that know what really great music is!

Hi there !
Wow this is great seeing so many of us fans chatting about our memories of Susan's music over the years. I've been a fan since around 1970 when "Billy" hit the charts in the USA. and made it to #1 here at WABC in NY City for 2 or 3 weeks ! That was exciting, as that became my favorite song back in the 70s.
Steve, glad to see there are others such as yourself who are from my neck of the woods, as they say. You're probably some 30-40 miles or so from me. Do you remember ever listening to WABC in Manhattan NY? The station was one of the top 5 in the country, as it came across the nation with what I believe was 50,000 watts of night-time power! The eveving DJ there back then, known as the popular "Cousin Brucie" would play "Billy" and then tell everyone "that's the Poppy People there with the #1 song in NY". That was a great time and era to have been a part of, listening to AM music radio before it became talk radio.
Well that's a brief glimpse into the past, in my perspective! Where you living in Long Island when you first heard "Good Friends"? I remember hearing that single when it came out, I believe it was in the late winter of 71 or 72. They actually played it on a local station from Long Island, with a MOR format, from what I can remember (WHLI?)
And Susan, so glad to see that you're getting stronger as the days go by. My prayers are with you for a full recovery!

Hi Billy,

Thanks for writing!

Yes, I do remember WABC radio in NY and Bruce Morrow (Cousin Brucie). I also remember the competition in the early 70s between Cousin Brucie on WABC radio and Wolfman Jack on WNBC radio. I would keep switching back and forth to whoever was playing the songs that I liked more. lol

I lived in Queens then. My mom would be playing her transistor radio while she was getting ready for work and as I was waking up in my room I would hear the first few bars of "Good Friends" and just lay there and listen to it. That's what I meant when I said that Susan woke me up on those high school mornings. After the song was over I would get up. I remember the Saturday after I first heard that song I went out and bought the Poppy Seeds album. When I saw the cover I remember being floored by how beautiful Susan is!

I moved to Long Island in 1983. My goal one day is to live in Hawaii. I'm not a big fan of the cold weather anymore. Never was I guess.

Susan, there's a song that was recorded by Jessica Simpson about 3 years ago entitled "When You Told Me You Loved Me." I only heard it for the first time recently. It would really be great to hear you sing it. Have you ever heard it? Is there a possibility of you recording it one day? I would love to hear your version of it! Just a thought. I hope this message finds you getting stronger every day! There are so many people that really love you!

None greater than our Hostess! Our Susan is a class act through-and-through. There may be no greater state to be both Canadian and loved around the world. We're so lucky to have Susan in this Forum. Many others gifted artists can't be bothered to keep in touch with their fans in any way, so we're a blessed bunch here :-)
